Pakistan’s Senate Chairman, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, has accepted a new international position as Honorary Patron of the Global Muslim Business Forum (GMBF), an influential body focused on economic leadership across the Muslim world.
According to an official information today, the appointment comes just months after he became the Founding Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC) and organised its inaugural summit.
The GMBF, an international platform established to connect political and business leaders, scholars, and institutions, extended the formal invitation in recognition of Gilani”s profile as a senior statesman and his advocacy for regional cooperation.
A former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Gilani currently presides over the country”s Upper House of Parliament, the Senate. His career in public service has been focused on governance challenges, economic development, and democratic institution-building.
This new honour follows a period of heightened international activity for the Senate Chairman. In 2025, Gilani was selected as the first Chairman of the newly formed Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC). He subsequently led the first ISC Conference in Pakistan, which was attended by parliamentary speakers and high-ranking dignitaries from 45 countries.
Chairman Gilani”s participation in the GMBF Summit held in Kuala Lumpur in December 2025 was noted for its contributions to discussions on governance and economic collaboration.
In a statement responding to the nomination, Chairman Gilani accepted the position and affirmed the GMBF”s mission. “I am honoured to accept the invitation to serve as Honorary Patron of the Global Muslim Business Forum. The GMBF’s mission to foster economic collaboration and responsible leadership in the Muslim world is commendable and timely,” he stated.
“As Chairman of the Senate, I envision stronger ties between OIC nations, focusing on trade, technology, and sustainable development to empower our communities,” he continued. “Initiatives like the GMBF can drive innovation, create opportunities, and address shared challenges such as poverty alleviation and climate change.”
Gilani added that he looks forward to supporting the Forum’s initiatives and participating in future engagements to contribute to a prosperous and interconnected Muslim world.
The appointment is seen as reinforcing Pakistan”s role in global parliamentary and economic discourse, underscoring the value of leadership grounded in institutional experience for fostering sustainable development and cooperation.
