Srinagar, February 22, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, following surge in the attacks on Indian Army camps, most of the police stations in Srinagar are being fortified. The Site Engineer at Shaheed Gunj Police Station told media that contracts have been given to various agencies all across Srinagar for this purpose.
The wall around the Shaheed Gunj Police Station is being raised from 10 feet to 20 feet, iron bars included. “The construction here started around December,” one of the workers at Shaheed Gunj Police Station said. At the Maisuma Police Station, too, the wall height is being doubled.
“The height of the wall was around 8 ft earlier, but by the time the construction is completed, I suppose it will be around 16 ft after fencing,” said one of the workers. Even as the wall around the Kothi Bagh Police Station is high enough, a bunker has come up to strengthen its security.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar, Imtiaz Ismail Parray, told media that it will “help in securing the premises”. After the militant attacks at the army camps at Sunjwan in Jammu and in Karan Nagar area of Srinagar, the Indian Home Minister, Rajnath Singh, had stressed the need of reviewing the security during a meeting with National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval; Union Home Secretary, Rajiv Gauba; and chiefs of various intelligence agencies.
Earlier, in February, Indian Defence Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, had also approved a 1,487-crore project for improving the security of army camps in occupied Kashmir and in North-East India, setting a deadline of 10 months.
