Punjab is actively seeking to enhance trade and economic cooperation with Mauritius, while Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has expressed a firm commitment to increasing exports of rice, textiles, and pharmaceuticals, and ensuring investment in the emerging blue economy sector.
During a formal meeting on Sunday, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif warmly welcomed the High Commissioner of Mauritius, Mansoor Karamli, where both dignitaries agreed to advance bilateral relations.
The discussion emphasized the importance of promoting business-to-business ties, organizing trade delegations, and holding joint exhibitions to boost commercial activities between the two countries.
It was also agreed to further enhance relations in education, tourism, and agriculture, as well as to promote people-to-people exchanges.
A consensus was also reached to increase cooperation in the strategic areas of Halal food, technology, and human resources.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif said, “We are committed to further increasing exports of rice, textiles, and pharmaceutical products to Mauritius.” She also pledged cooperation with Mauritius’s established sugar industry and technology for productive farming.
The Chief Minister warmly welcomed Mauritian investment in Punjab’s tourism sector and assured the High Commissioner of all possible cooperation for investment related to the blue economy.
Sharif stated that there are vast opportunities for trade in agriculture, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and light engineering, adding that “Bilateral trade between Pakistan and Mauritius has seen encouraging growth in recent years.”
Identifying significant potential in workforce development, the Chief Minister said, “There are opportunities for cooperation in human capital development, especially in higher education and vocational skills.” She informed the ambassador that a provincial program is currently transforming over one hundred thousand youths into a skilled workforce.
The Chief Minister praised Mansoor Karamli’s tireless efforts for youth development and the fight against drugs, and also paid tribute to the High Commissioner’s services in the education sector.
Sharif commented, “Pakistan and Mauritius have long-standing friendly relations based on cultural ties and mutual respect,” and expressed best wishes for the visiting dignitary.
