The Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development (ICCD) has entered into a strategic alliance with a premier Pakistani scientific institution, the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) at the University of Karachi, to advance Halal certification standards and development worldwide.
KU informed today that the landmark accord was formalized during a signing ceremony at a local hotel, where Prof. Dr. Muhammad Raza Shah, Director of ICCBS, and Sheikh Yousef Hasan Khalawi, Secretary General of ICCD, put their signatures on the document. The event was also witnessed by Prof. Dr. Syed Abid Ali and other distinguished officials from both organizations.
This cooperative venture aims to leverage the expertise of the Halal Certification Testing and Research Services (HCTRS) established within ICCBS. Prof. Shah described the arrangement as a “milestone” for Halal testing and research in Pakistan, emphasizing the institute”s role in certification, scientific analysis, and training.
ICCD, an affiliate of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) headquartered in Karachi, represents the private sectors of OIC member nations. Its collaboration with ICCBS, recognized as one of Pakistan”s leading centers of excellence in chemical and biological sciences, signals a major push to standardize and expand the Halal ecosystem.
The terms of the pact outline several ambitious objectives. Both institutions will work jointly to establish new frameworks for Halal certification and create a comprehensive database for related research.
Furthermore, the joint effort will focus on fostering a global network of Halal testing centers and developing new scientific and educational materials. The agreement also paves the way for launching future initiatives and projects designed to strengthen the integrity and reach of Halal-certified products and services.
