LARKANA:After being fed up with the constant lockdown, shopkeepers of sealed Bakrani Road started opening their shops early Monday morning. Police and security forces forced them to close down their business.

They held a protest demonstration demanding opening of their shops. They included Dr Ravi Kumar, Kirpal Das, Kamran Shaikh, Azam Shaikh, Shamuddin Shaikh, Riyaz Pathan, Haresh Kumar, Shuja Memon, Afzal Ahmed, Siraj Tunio and others. They said that several shops had been opened daily in sealed areas of Nawa Tak and Dari Muhalla, but why they had been forced to close down their business.

They said those areas were worst affected by COVID-19 as new cases of local transmission had also emerged in these localities. They said that the local administration was constantly asking them to remain silent till April 30 but they were even not sure whether shops would be allowed to open on that date or date would again be extended.

They said it was about one month that all kinds of trade and business had come to a standstill but the rulers had done nothing for the worst poverty-ridden daily wagers, labourers and their starved families.

They urged the government to reconsider their decisions and save residents from facing starvation. Police sources said that 10 shopkeepers were arrested in Jelus Bazaar who opened their shops unlawfully, while 30 people were also separately arrested for violating Section 144.
