Six FBR Officials Suspended Over Unauthorised Absence from Sugar Mill Monitoring

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has taken immediate disciplinary action, suspending six of its officials after they were discovered to be absent without leave from their crucial monitoring duties at sugar mills.

According to a report from FBR on Sunday, the dereliction of duty was uncovered during routine verification and supervision activities carried out by the Large Tax Office (LTO) in Lahore, which is responsible for the strict oversight of monitoring teams within its jurisdiction.

These officials were deployed under Section 40B of the Sales Tax Act, 1990, a provision intended to guarantee the effective, transparent and uninterrupted surveillance of sugar production.

In light of the serious nature of the lapse, LTO Lahore has put forward a proposal for the initiation of formal disciplinary proceedings against the concerned personnel as per applicable regulations. The immediate suspension serves to enforce accountability and safeguard the integrity of the monitoring process.

The FBR has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct, reiterating its unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards of discipline and professionalism. The revenue authority stated that any non-compliance with assigned responsibilities will be dealt with firmly and strictly under the law.
