Secretary fears diversion of Sindh workers welfare board funds

Karachi, June 27, 2018 (PPI-OT):Sindh workers welfare board has cut all its major welfare expenditures due to non release of funds since last March and could face monetary challenges ahead after 30th June if transfer of funds not ensured in time.

This was revealed during a briefing to caretaker minister for labour and human resources Simon John Daniel here at worker welfare board head office. Secretary SWWB Syed Mehdi Shah, director finance Anwer Ausaf, assistant secretary education Ms. Nuzhat Habib dy. director welfare Ahtisham, and dy. director technical Muzafar Shah made detailed briefing on the budget, development, education and welfare measures.

Secretary board Mr. Shah also informed that governing body has completed its term and owing to delay in reconstitution of new governing body, we were unable to present budget for the financial year 2018-19. He added that procedure of fund transfers to board have also been changed without bringing into the notice of board.

‘’When we approached Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) for the transfer of funds collected from industrial units/ companies under Sindh Worker Welfare Fund, we were verbally advised to approach finance department for release of funds saying that SRB had transferred funds amounting to around Rs. 2 billion to finance department ,” secretary board added. He informed that formerly workers fund were directly transferred to SWWB by the Sindh Revenue Board.

Mr. Shah said that at present funds were being collected from companies / industrial units on the basis of old minimum wages adding that then minimum wages were 3000 per month and suggested to amend relevant rules for collection of workers fund as minimum wages have been raised to 15000.

On the occasion, caretaker labour minister Simon John Daniel assured board to raise this important issue with higher authorities of Sindh government. He also directed to convene a joint meeting of labour secretary and board administration with secretary finance on urgent basis to resolve this matter. Caretaker minister for labour Simon John Daniel said that workers were the key stakeholders of our country economy adding that if worker prosperous, country will progress.

Jameel Yusuf presides meeting of Information Department

Karachi, June 26, 2018 (PPI-OT):Sindh caretaker Minister for Information Jameel Yusuf has today discussed various ways and means to bring reforms in the Information department. He also expressed his grave concern over the attitude of officers towards laid down responsibilities. The meeting was attended by newly posted Secretary Information department Qazi Shahid Pervaiz and all Directors of Information department.

The minister stressed upon the officers to discharge duties dedicatedly and with the spirit to uplift the image of department. The minister reviewed the functioning of each and every directorate of the Information department. He asked Director Information advertisements to rationalize the disbursement of advertisements. “The advertisements must be given on merit keeping in view the regularity and circulation of the newspapers “, he elaborated.

He further directed to revisit process of Pre-qualification of advertising agencies held recently and submit report along with recommendations. He was of the view to place entire details of advertisements related matters including distribution of advertisements and payments thereof on website of information department to ensure transparency and good governance.

Jameel Yusuf emphasized the need to reactivate website of Information department within shortest possible time and asked Director Electronic Media to submit compliance report. While reviewing the working of Directorate of Electronic Media, the minister directed to transform Electronic Media into a functional Rapid Response Cell. “All important government functionaries of the Sindh Government should be informed at once about the news to be clarified or contradicted and responded to and in this connection PROs be taken on board to act efficiently”, he emphasized.

Minister Information concluded the meeting with the remarks to exhibit devotion and sincerity to revamp the department and make it more public oriented. The Secretary Information said that necessary training of the officers would be ensured to make the department more active and efficient. He further said that slackness and negligence to responsibilities would not be tolerated and all such elements would be take to task. He emphasized upon the role of Information department during caretaker regime and directed to utilize all energies to assist election commission of Pakistan and other departments responsible for holding fair and free elections.

British Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi Ellin Burns called on Chairperson SBI Naheed Memon

Karachi, June 26, 2018 (PPI-OT): British Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi Ellin Burns called on Chairperson Sindh Board of Investment(SBI) Naheed Memon today in SBI office. On this occasion Naheed Memon briefed the honorable Deputy High Commissioner about all the strategic units and projects of SBI and about investment opportunities in various sectors specially in agriculture sector in Sindh province.

Chairperson SBI also briefed the guest about Special Economic Zones(SEZs) in Sindh and about ease of doing business project in which British Government is also helping to Sindh government in its implementation.

Chairperson invited the distinguished guest to visit Sukkur Chamber of Commerce and Khairpur special economic zone the first ever economic zone of Pakistan. The Deputy High Commissioner accepted Chairperson’s invitation of visit she also appreciated the colours of multicultural society of Sindh. She also assured her full cooperation regarding encouraging British investors to invest in Sindh province.

C.S video conference by C.S. Sindh on arrangements of Gen. Election 2018

Karachi, June 26, 2018 (PPI-OT): Chief Secretary Sindh Maj (Rtd) Azam Suleman Khan has asked the Commissioner/Deputy Commissioners, DIGs/SSPs and all concerned officers to ensure the implementation of code of conduct of the Election Commission of Pakistan, for holding the free-fair, impartial and transparent General Election-2018. He was addressing the above officers through video conference, which was also addressed by the Provincial Election Commissioner M. Yousuf Khan and IGP Sindh Amjad Javed Salemmeee.

The field i.e., Divisional and District Management Officers were advised by the Chief Secretary that they should perform election duty zealously in accordance with the ECP-code of conduct. He also emphasized upon the Divisional/Distt. Management and Police Officers to take legal action against the candidate and their supporters for carrying out arms and ammunition/arms weapons, which is under ban.

Major Azam Suleman Khan said that the Deputy Commissioners should ensure their heave responsibility in respect of Election Duty and they must inform their Commissioner about any incident occurs in their District, such a situation is transmitted, by any other source including media, thus responsible D.Cs shall be liable for the situation as per rules and regulation.

He categorically noted that the missing facilities must be provided in all Polling Stations to facilitate the Polling Staff and Voters for peaceful election process.

IGP Sindh Amjad Javed Saleemee and Provincial Election Commissioners M. Yusuf Khatak also addressed the conference, and advised the officers to assist the ECP for conducting fair, free, impartial and transparent General Election.

SMBR Dr. Iqbal Durrani, Secretary GA Zulfiqar Ali Shah, Secretary Education Dr. Alya Shahid, Secretary Home Haroon Ahmed, Secretary Implementation Syed Mohsin Ali Shah, Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Saaleh Farooqi and other officers including six Deputy Commissioners of Karachi were also present.

All jail Superintendents exceeded their tenure of Posting to be transferred to another location: Brig(Retd)Haris Nawaz

Karachi, June 26, 2018 (PPI-OT): Caretaker Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh for Prisons, works and Services, Social welfare and Special Education Brigadier (retd) Haris Nawaz has directed the I.G. Prisons Sindh to maintain a list of all those jail superintendents who have exceeded their tenure on their present posting and transfer them to another location in the province. He also directed the I.G. Prisons Sindh for strict security measures of prisons across the province specially for those prisoners who are involved in heinous crimes or in terrorist activities and they must be kept on special watch.

Malaysian delegation visits Sindh Board of Investment office

Karachi, June 26, 2018 (PPI-OT): A delegation of Malaysian Company ‘Ranhill Holdings Berhad’ led by companies water department head How Ta Ratan visited Sindh Board of Investment office today where the delegation discussed the matters of mutual interest with the Chairperson SBI Naheed Memon.

The delegation informed Chairperson SBI that Ranhill Holdings has vast experience in Water Supply, waste water treatment and power sectors, the company has more than 3000 employees and is being listed with Malaysian exchange. The company has expressed its interest in investment in water supply, waste water treatment, billing and power sectors.

On this occasion Chairperson SBI Naheed Memon appreciated their services and experience in the specific fields. She said that Sindh province specially its mega city Karachi has been facing acute shortage of clean water and treatment of waste water. She said that water commission under the supervision of Chief Justice of Pakistan is striving to solve these long standing problems.

The chairperson SBI said that the services and interest of Ranhill holdings in these specific fields is appreciable and we need a comprehensive investment plan from the Malaysian company regarding their proposal so that it could be a feasible Public Pvt partnership plan between Kw and SB and the Malaysian Company.

The Malaysian delegation visited KW and SB offices where they meet MD. KW and SB and then the delegation visited the KW and SB pumping stations and Other sites of KW and SB in Dhabeji, Gharo, Chilya and on other locations.
