PM: (Govt committed to provide all possible cooperation for promotion of IT field: PM)

ISLAMABAD:Prime Minister Imran Khan has said youth and educated population of Pakistan have great potential for IT sector and his government is committed to provide all possible cooperation for the promotion of this field.

Chairing a meeting here on Friday regarding promotion of Information and Technology (IT) in the country, he said provision of enabling environment is vital to ensure contribution of youth in the construction and development of the country, especially in modern sectors. The Prime Minister said Pakistani youth has proved its mettle, despite the fact of being neglected in the IT sector.

He directed the Chairman of National Information Technology Board to evolve a comprehensive strategy and roadmap to materialize the suggestions presented for the promotion of IT sector. The meeting also discussed utilization of the capacity of country’s youth for the promotion of IT sector, especially in the field of chip designing industry.

PM: (PM welcomes Facebook’s investments, programs in Pakistan)

ISLAMABAD:Facebook’s Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg held a virtual meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday to discuss Facebook’s investments in Pakistan, the company’s support for digital literacy initiatives in the country and its work around COVID-19.

The Prime Minister welcomed Facebook’s investments and programs in Pakistan and encouraged them to increase their footprint.

He recognized the immense potential of digital platforms like Facebook and the role that they can play in giving global opportunities to Pakistani youth and entrepreneurs and how the opportunities they create can lift people out of poverty.

The Prime Minister also raised concerns around the global rise in hate and extremism and acknowledged the immense challenge of fighting hate speech online.

The two discussed Facebook’s connectivity investments and research grants that were awarded this year to Pakistan-based academics.

Other topics included Facebook’s blood donations product which has seen more than 5 million people sign up since it launched in-country, as well as Facebook’s support for the government’s goal of a polio-free Pakistan.

The Prime Minister and Sandberg also spoke about Facebook’s SheMeansBusiness Program which is training some 6,700 women across Pakistan.

Sandberg and Prime Minister Imran Khan last met in Davos, Switzerland, in January 2020.

PM: (Power sector officials call on PM)

ISLAMABAD:People related to power sector including Muhammad Ali Tibba, Shahid Abdullah and Ansar Ahmad Khan called on Prime Minister Imran Khan here on Friday.

Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi, Finance Advisor Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Special Assistant Tabish Gohar were also present in the meeting. They discussed matters related to the power sector.

(PM urges citizens to adopt precautionary measures to avoid COVID-19)

Islamabad:Prime Minister Imran Khan has urged citizens to adopt precautionary measures to avoid further spread of coronavirus.

In a tweet on Sunday, the Prime Minister said as compared to some other states, Allah has been kind to us in Pakistan and spared us from the worst effects of COVID-19.

He said there is a fear that onset of winter could result in 2nd wave of Corona. He urged everyone to wear face masks in public to avoid a spike and said all offices and educational institutions must ensure that masks are worn.

PM: (PM approves establishment of One Window Complaint System)

Islamabad:Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved the establishment of One Window Complaint System under which all the complaint cells of federal departments will be linked with Pakistan Citizens Portal.

Prime Minister’s Performance Delivery Unit has been directed to determine modalities in consultation with all concerned organizations, chalk out integration plans and get it completed within sixty days.

According to the PM office, thirty-three complaint cells of federal departments will initially be linked to Pakistan Citizens Portal. This will strengthen the complaint registration system as well as prove to be useful to effectively address the public grievances. The PM Office said that all sorts of the public complaints will be addressed on merit.

PM: (PM to address UN General Assembly session on Friday next)

Islamabad:Prime Minister Imran Khan will address the UN General Assembly session on Friday next.

Addressing weekly news briefing here on Friday, Foreign Office Spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said due to the restrictions imposed by the local administration in New York, there will be no in-person high-level participation from outside.

He said the General Debate of the 75th Session of the UN General Assembly will commence on Tuesday. He said the Foreign Minister will participate virtually in the High Level Meeting of the General Assembly to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations. He will also participate in other high level engagements.

The Spokesperson said Pakistan welcomes the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelete’s reiteration of serious concerns on unabated violence in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, including indiscriminate use of pellet guns on civilians.

He said Pakistan strongly condemns continued Indian attempts to illegally change the demographic structure of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He said, as reported, Indian authorities have distributed over 1.68 million domiciles to non-Kashmiris. The Spokesperson said the Indian actions are in clear violation of the UN Security Council Resolutions and international law, including the 4th Geneva Convention.

PM: (Govt committed to promote science and technology for country’s progress: PM)

Islamabad:Prime Minister Imran Khan has said the government is committed to promote science and technology for progress in the country.

He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of Pak-Austria Fachhochschule Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology in Haripur on Thursday. The institute will offer courses in artificial intelligence, engineering, food technology and various other disciplines.

The Prime Minister said we are moving in the right direction with a focus on education, science, technology and knowledge economy. He expressed the confidence that the institute will prove to be a major step in promotion of science and technology in the country.

Imran Khan said the government is going to collaborate with five Chinese and three Austrian universities for technological advancement in Pakistan. He said in the second phase of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), special economic zones will be established and industry will be relocated in Pakistan.

Earlier, the Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated Pak-Austria Fachhochschule Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology. Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shah Farman and Chief Minister Mahmood Khan were also present on the occasion.

Earlier, in a tweet, the Chairman CPEC Authority Asim Saleem Bajwa said the project reflects vision of state of the art science and technology education infrastructure and broad based industrial and knowledge based economy.
