Pakistan’s highest leadership, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, today reaffirmed the state’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and ensuring equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities, in separate statements marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Both leaders issued a collective appeal to the public, governmental and private sector entities, civil society organizations, and international collaborators to actively support and recognize the identity of disabled individuals with dignity.
In his message, President Zardari highlighted that governmental bodies at both federal and provincial levels are implementing progressive measures aimed at enhancing accessibility, education, healthcare services, mobility, and employment prospects for the differently-abled community.
The President emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to create an inclusive Pakistan where no citizen is marginalized and where persons with disabilities are valued as integral contributors to the nation”s collective strength and resilience.
Prime Minister Sharif, in his address, stated that the administration fully recognizes the critical importance of protecting the rights of disabled persons and is diligently working towards their protection.
He noted that the Constitution of Pakistan serves as a cornerstone, guaranteeing equal rights and societal participation for every citizen without discrimination.
The premier further described people with disabilities as a fundamental component of the nation”s social and cultural fabric.
