The 41st International Handmade Carpet Exhibition has kicked off with significant global interest, as a large contingent of foreign buyers arrived in Lahore, fueling optimism for major export agreements that could provide a considerable boost to Pakistan”s economy.
PCMEA informed today that the three-day event, organized under the banner of the Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMEA), was formally inaugurated by Fauzia Parveen Chaudhry, the Senior Director General of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), at a local hotel. The opening ceremony was well-attended by industry leaders, including PCMEA Patron-in-Chief Abdul Latif Malik, Chairman Mian Atiq-ur-Rehman, and other senior members and exporters.
Following the inauguration, Ms. Chaudhry toured the various stalls, expressing deep appreciation for the exquisite craftsmanship and superior quality of the hand-woven products. She commended Pakistani artisans for their role in preserving the traditional art form and noted that the industry holds immense potential to significantly increase the nation”s exports, assuring TDAP”s continued support.
Leadership from the PCMEA, including Chairman Mian Atiq-ur-Rehman and Exhibition Chairman Riaz Ahmed, expressed strong confidence that the gathering would translate into lucrative export deals. “The overwhelming interest shown by foreign buyers in Pakistani handmade carpets is truly encouraging and a testament to the enduring appeal of our products,” they stated, highlighting the presence of representatives from numerous international companies.
This year”s exposition also features a special display of rugs created by inmates of Punjab’s prisons and innovative designs presented by students from the National College of Arts (NCA). This unique showcase reflects both the deep-rooted tradition and modern creativity within Pakistan’s vibrant carpet industry.
