Srinagar, June 19, 2020 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, transporters held a protest in demonstration in Srinagar to urge the authorities to allow them resume their services too as they have faced huge losses due to continued lockdown for months together.
Scores of transporters under the banner of All Kashmir Transporters Welfare Association (AKTWA) led by its Chairman, Matt Shabbir Ahmed, assembled at Parimpora Bus Stand in Srinagar and staged a protest. The protesters were holding placards reading slogans in favour of their demands and were raising slogans against the authorities for neglecting them over the years.
Matt Shabbir Ahmad talking to media said that the transporters had suffered huge losses due to the lockdown. “Although Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) busses have been allowed to ferry passengers, local transporters are still being barred to earn their livelihood. We too have families and our vehicles are the main source of livelihood for us,” he added. Matt Shabbir Ahmad along with all the district chairmen of the association demanded of the authorities to fulfill all the demands of transporters.
