Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are set to clash in a thrilling Twenty20 International (T20I) tri-series, commencing August 29th in Sharjah.
This competition serves as crucial preparation for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, scheduled for next year in India and Sri Lanka. The tournament precedes the Asia Cup in September, providing subcontinental squads with vital game time ahead of the global event. The inaugural match pits Pakistan against Afghanistan, who reached the semi-finals of the previous T20 World Cup.
Each nation will play the others twice in a round-robin format. The top two teams will progress to the final on September 7th. Sharjah Cricket Stadium has witnessed five T20I encounters between Pakistan and Afghanistan, with Pakistan triumphant on three occasions.
Pakistan recently concluded a T20I series against the West Indies, following a 2-1 series defeat to Bangladesh. Afghanistan”s last T20I outing resulted in a 2-1 series victory over Zimbabwe in December. The UAE also enters the tri-series with momentum, having secured a T20I series win against Bangladesh in May.
