Pakistan reports 42 coronavirus cases, two deaths in 24 hours

KARACHI: Pakistan has reported two deaths in the last 24 hours by novel coronavirus as the number of confirmed positive cases has surged to 1,576,880. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 30,643 on Saturday.

According to the latest figures by the National Institute of Health (NIH), at least 42 persons were tested positive for COVID-19 across the country in the past 24 hours. Pakistan has conducted 5,019 tests in the past 24 hours out of which 42 persons were tested positive for the disease. The COVID Positivity Ratio was recorded at 0. 84 percent.

ECOTHON 2023 Marathon Race held in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: ECOTHON 2023 Marathon Race was held here in Islamabad on Saturday under the aegis of Prime Minister Youth Program and the UAE’s embassy.

The theme of the race was to promote Clean and Healthy Environment. A large number of people from all walks of life including ambassadors and high commissioners participated in the race. Purpose of the Marathon race was to create awareness among the masses about the negative impacts of climate change. More than 1000 participants took part in the race.

Woman killed, man injured in road accident near Toba Tek Singh

TOBA TEK SINGH: A woman was killed and a man seriously injured in a collision between a tractor-trolley and a donkey cart in Toba Tek Singh on Saturday.

According to details, this incident occurred when a donkey cart collided with a tractor-trolley in village 307 in Pir Mahal area of Toba Tek Singh. As a result, Fatima, aged 60 years, suffered severe injuries and died on spot, while Muhammad Sarwar, 62 years, sustained severe head injuries. He was shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Pir Mahal.

Sharjeel extends big offer to PTI for success of ‘Jail Bharo Tehreek’ in Sindh

KARACHI: Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has extended big offer to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf for the success of their Jail Bharo Tehreek in Sindh.

In his twitter message, the minister said that the entire nation is praying for the success of recently launched Jail Bharo Tehreek of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. The minister said that unfortunately the legs of those who announced the movement are trembling.

Sharjeel encouraged Tehreek-e-Insaf and advised them to come forward and make this movement a success in Sindh. He said that Sindh government is ready to fully facilitate them. The minister offered PTI free pick and drop service and asked them to give list of aspiring leaders and workers.

Seven TTP militants arrested from Lahore, other cities

Lahore: In a major action, the Counter-Terrorism Department force has captured seven terrorists from different cities including Lahore. The spokesperson for the CTD told media on Saturday that the department launched an operation and arrested 7 terrorists from Lahore and other cities. He said that the captured terrorists belonged to the proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

The militants have been identified as: Ahmad Ullah, Usama, Nazeer, Hammad, Abdul Rehman, and Aman Ullah. The CTD recovered material used in making suicide jackets, explosives and arms from the possession of the militants, he added. The spokesperson informed that the terrorists wanted to target the sensitive installations. The CTD has arrested 80 suspects during 423 combing operations conducted this week. The CTD Punjab is on the forefront in the fight against terrorism, he concluded.

Two labourers die, 3 hurt as Bhara Kahu Bypass pillar shuttering caves in

ISLAMABAD: Two labourers died, three seriously injured while another four were trapped under rubble when shuttering of a big pillar of Bhara Kahu Bypass project in Islamabad gave way and collapsed on Saturday morning. Rescue teams rushed to the incident site and started their work to pull the labourers out of rubble. They succeeded in pulling out three labourers while efforts to save the remaining four were going on. The three injured labourers were rushed to a hospital where their condition was stated to be serious.

CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Noorul Amin Mangal took notice of the incident and ordered an inquiry. He directed that the eight-member investigation team, to be headed by Deputy Commissioner Arfan Nawaz, should name the people responsible for this tragedy. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) had earlier stated that more than 50pc work on Bhara Kahu Bypass had been completed.

“Work on Bhara Kahu bypass is in full progress. More than 50 per cent of the work is completed. This project will reduce traffic congestion and pollution and will also facilitate the tourists going towards Murree,” the CDA had tweeted following the visit of its chairman to the construction site. The CDA chairman, retired Capt Mohammad Usman, along with Member Engineering Syed Munawar Shah and others visited the project site. The member engineering and director Rana Tariq briefed the chairman about the progress on the project.

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb has felicitated journalist and columnist Farrukh Shehbaz Waraich on being elected unopposed as the central President of Punjab Union of Journalists (PUJ).
