LARKANA:As many as 2424 HIV positive patients have been registered at the HIV/AIDS Treatment and Care Center established in Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH), Larkana, up to 30th April, 2019 out of which 1082 belong to Larkana district alone.
This was revealed in a report obtained by this Scribe on Friday. Out of these cases 366 are from Kambar-Shahdadkot, 242 from Dadu, 208 from Khairpur Mirs, 157 from Shikarpur, 71 from Jacobabad, 91 from Sukkur, 48 from Kashmore, 58 from Naushehro Feroze, 34 from Ghotki, 25 from Jamshoro, 11 from Nawabshah, two from Hyderabad, 14 from Jaffarabad, six from Nasirabad and one each from Badin, Khuzdar, Kharan, Kalat, Panjghor, Sibi, Jhat Pat, Dera Murad Jamali and Sohbatpur. 2274 cases were registered at this Center up to November 2018 which means 150 more cases have been detected and registered in four months which is a very emergency-like situation for the Sindh Government to act without loosing a moment. Out of these 2424 positive patients as many as 1879 are males, 491 females, 22 children and 32 transgenders. 2114 patients are on HAART and 185 have so far been defaulting.
A reliable source claimed that NAB has taken notice of the drugs supplied to Sindh AIDS Control Program (SACP) and since then no medicine supplies are carried out by SACP to its Treatment Centers in the province and all medication is being made by National AIDS Control Program from Islamabad.
SACP has failed to control the spread of this viral disease for which it need complete overhauling and reforms, he added.
Another senior doctor working in CMCH said that when Sindh Government can transfer a BPS-20 doctor and suspending others on surfacing of a rat-bite case occurred in CMCH Paeds Medicine Department few years ago then it can also take drastic actions against those who failed to prevent and control the spread of deadly HIV in the province due to their sheer and criminal negligence. He said Hepatitis has already hit hard the residents and now HIV has become common which need to be handled on emergency basis or else it is feared that it may bring a disaster in the near future.
