KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday acquitted a policeman, Ghulam Ismail, in a case pertaining to extra judicial killing of a citizen.
The hearing was conducted by a two-member bench of the SHC, headed by Justice K.K Agha. It approved the plea and announced its judgment by acquitting the policeman. The court rejected the plea of the victim’s family to sentence the policeman to death.
The trial court had sentenced the policeman six years in prison and a fine in 2002. The accused was released on bail after spending five years in police custody. The Sindh High Court ruled on the appeal after 13 years of hearings. The state prosecutor said a policeman had extra judicially killed a citizen from Lyari area.
