KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday issued notices to Chief Secretary Sindh, Education Department, Higher Education Commission (HEC) and other respondents on a petition against Ilma University for charging extra fees from its students.
A SHC bench heard a petition filed by Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi against Ilma University for getting extra fees.
The court issued notices to respondents and sought reply from them on next hearing.
The petitioner stated that university was playing with the future of students. ‘Students are being harassed in the name of extra fees,’’ he stated.
The court questioned that why the affected students and their families did not approach the court and how you could come by hearing this news? The petitioner stated he came for the cause of public interest after watching a program on a private news channel.
Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi also told the court that 500 students are being harassed in ILMA University.
The students, who could not pay extra fees, are given ‘D grade’ in exams after which some students have submitted applications to the HEC but no action was taken, the petitioner stated.
