KARACHI:Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday expressed annoyance at Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for not submitting its reply on a plea against its notification pertaining to the facts and figures of census and country’s population.
A two-member bench of the SHC headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar heard the plea filed a citizen against Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, and ECP, and sought complete reply from ECP on next hearing.
Mureed Ali Shah, counsel of the petitioner told the court that the data about Sindh was hidden from ECP’s notification. He pleaded that things which are illegal should be termed unlawful. He said that there is a contradiction in the notifications of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics and ECP pertaining to the population of Pakistan.
“According to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics country’s population is 207774520 and ECP’s notification tell that the population is 207766954,’’ he said. Due to the contradiction between both institutions, impartial polls were not possible on general seats, he argued.
