Karachi:Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) President Lt. Gen (R) Syed Arif Hasan and Chairperson Softball Federation of Pakistan (SFP) Tehmina Asif have congratulated the newly elected Softball Asia (SA) President Dato Low Beng Choo.
Choo has been elected unopposed for the next four-year term during 24th Congress Meeting of Softball Asia held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Meanwhile, Pan Chuan has been elected for the newly created Chairman post. Taeko Utsugi has been elected as First Vice President.
Susan Zhang, Jimmy Fong, Kim Young, Jean Henri and Kosal Yimpaiboon have been elected as vice presidents. Sally Lim and Chang Chia have been elected as joint secretaries.
Meanwhile, Hiromi Tokuda (Advisor), Haruhi Goto (Chief Umpire), See Kok Wooi (Technical Commission), Taeko Utsugi (Chairman Development Commission) and Yutake Miyake (Chairman Coaching Committee) have also been elected for the important posts.
Secretaries of the member countries presented their last year’s reports. On the suggestion of SFP Secretary Asif Azeem, Asian Softball Confederation (ASC) name has been changed to Softball Asia (SA). Meanwhile, the congress has also approved change of logo of the renamed Softball Asia.
Singapore has been given the hosting rights of Men’s U-18 Asia Cup and it has also been decided that Taiwan will host the inaugural edition of U-19 Asia Cup in November next year. Meanwhile, umpire’s course will be held in July next year in Thailand.
On the occasion, President Dato Low Beng Choo thanked the members of the congress for electing her. She added that united efforts were required to bring Asian teams higher in the world rankings.
“For this purpose, member countries will be provided with befitting environment and diligent efforts will also have to be made to achieve the goal. Apart from this, efforts will also be made to provide opportunities to men’s teams to feature in more international tournaments,” she added.
