ISLAMABAD:A strong earthquake jolted parts of Pakistan, Afghanistan and India on Friday.
In Pakistan, the quake with 6.4 magnitude hit Islamabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Malakand, Chitral and their surrounding areas, creating panic across the country.
The earthquake hit these areas at about 4:39 PM. No loss of life or property was reported from the earthquake. The citizens came out of houses, hotels and other places in fear and tries to save life.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the epicentre of the earthquake was the Koh-e-Hindukush mountain in Afghanistan and it was measured 210 kilometers deep.
Strong earthquake tremors were also felt in several parts of north India, including Punjab and Delhi-NCR, Hindustan Times reported.
The National Center for Seismology said the 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck at 5.09 pm with its epicentre 250 km from Afghanistan capital Kabul. The tube-lights could be seen shaking in offices in Gurgaon. Tremors were felt for several seconds in various parts of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh at 5.13 p.m in India.
Two short tremors in quick succession forced residents into the streets in Kabul and Islamabad. However, there were no immediate reports of damage till filing this news.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 jolted Kabul and a few provinces including Parwan, Baghlan, Kunduz and Badakhshan provinces on Friday afternoon. The earthquake jolted 51km SW of Jarm, Afghanistan at 11:39:52 GMT on Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The epicenter, with a depth of 210.22 km, was initially determined to be at 36.5344 degrees north latitude and 70.4374 degrees east longitude, according to USGS.
