NIPA Participants Learn About Karachi’s Economic Significance, Ongoing Development

Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, addressing participants of the National Institute of Public Administration’s (NIPA) 38th Senior Management Course, today underscored Karachi’s vital role as the nation”s economic engine, asserting that national progress is intrinsically linked to the city’s growth.

He stressed the need for positive promotion of major urban centers and highlighted the Pakistan Peoples Party”s (PPP) commitment to addressing Karachi”s challenges, as mandated by the electorate. Ongoing development initiatives aim to revitalize Karachi”s status as the “city of lights.” KMC Municipal Commissioner Afzal Zaidi, Finance Advisor Gulzar Abro, and other officials were present during the meeting at KMC headquarters.

Wahab lamented the negative perceptions surrounding Karachi, contrasting them with the improved security situation and robust industrial and commercial activities driving the city”s rapid progress. He affirmed the provincial government”s dedication to Karachi”s prosperity across diverse sectors.

The mayor emphasized the symbiotic relationship between Karachi”s advancement and national progress, noting that increased economic activity generates employment opportunities nationwide. Improvements in education, he added, will cultivate a skilled workforce, while enhanced infrastructure will elevate the quality of life for residents. Achieving these goals requires collective responsibility and collaboration between citizens, the provincial government, and municipal authorities.

Wahab urged residents to treat Karachi with the respect due to one’s own home, emphasizing its welcoming nature as it absorbs thousands of new arrivals daily, many seeking free medical care in the city”s hospitals. He cited Jinnah Hospital”s free, cutting-edge CyberKnife technology, a unique service provided by the Sindh government, as a testament to the city”s healthcare offerings.

The mayor explained that sectoral growth hinges on thorough planning, timely execution, and effective monitoring of projects. He highlighted the PPP”s adherence to these management principles in serving the citizens of Karachi and other Sindh cities, assuring continued development and progress. Zaidi briefed the NIPA participants on KMC”s departments and services. The participants expressed gratitude for the informative visit, presenting Mayor Wahab with a commemorative shield.
