Nearly 3,000 arrested in federal capital for illegal arms possession, drug trafficking in 4 months

Authorities in the capital have arrested nearly 3,000 people for illegal arms possession and drug trafficking in the first four months of 2026, marking a major enforcement drive against criminal elements.

Officially, Islamabad Police said today that out of the 2,924 alleged criminals detained, 1,668 were previously absconding criminals. Additionally, 1,256 people were specifically detained for illegal arms possession, display of weapons and involvement in illegal drug trade.

The concentrated efforts by law enforcement personnel also led to the seizure of substantial quantities of narcotics and banned substances. Recoveries included 94 kilograms of hashish, over 64 kilograms of heroin, and 52 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “ice”. Furthermore, 2,342 bottles of liquor were confiscated from the arrested drug distributors.

In the domain of illicit weaponry, the operation impounded 608 pistols of various calibres, 47 rifles or shotguns, and 34 Kalashnikov assault rifles. Investigators also seized 57 daggers along with a considerable volume of ammunition from the suspects involved in illegal arms activities.

Commenting on the robust action, DIG Islamabad Mohammad Javed Tariq affirmed the police”s unwavering commitment. He stated that the Islamabad Police would persist in implementing its zero-tolerance policy to completely eradicate crime and ensure the comprehensive protection of citizens.
