The Islamabad police today apprehended five individuals and confiscated a significant arsenal, including five machine guns and a bulletproof vest, during a targeted operation in the Tarnol area, officials confirmed.
The raid was conducted as part of the Islamabad Police”s ongoing “weaponfree city campaign,” an initiative progressing swiftly under special directives from Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi.
A Tarnol police team took five suspects into custody, identified as Wali Kan, Aamir Khan, Iqbal Khan, Aamir, and Abdul Khaliq, for their alleged involvement in possessing illegal armaments.
In addition to the machine guns and protective vest, the recovered cache included one repeater gun, ten pistols of various calibers, and a quantity of ammunition.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against the detained men, with cases registered and further investigation underway. SSP Operations Islamabad, Qazi Ali Raza, stated that a “strict implementation of the zerotolerance policy against illegal weapons is being ensured.”
The SSP also urged residents to register their licensed firearms at their respective police stations, emphasizing that the protection of citizens” lives and property remains the foremost priority for the city”s law enforcement.
The Islamabad Police has issued an appeal for public cooperation, encouraging citizens to report any suspicious individuals or activities to the relevant police station or the “Pucar15” helpline without delay.
