Pakistan to Host Islamic World Tourism Summit to Propel Economic Growth

The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), in collaboration with the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development (ICCD), will organise a major international Sustainable Tourism Forum (STF) and Expo in Karachi on 21-22 January 2026.

According to FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh’s information today, the two-day event is expected to convene policymakers, investors, tourism professionals, and development institutions from Pakistan and other Islamic nations. Mr. Sheikh stated the gathering will highlight tourism as a significant engine for economic development, investment attraction, employment creation, and cultural diplomacy.

The FPCCI Chief stressed that tourism has become one of the world”s most dynamic economic sectors, contributing substantially to national economies, foreign exchange earnings, and job creation. He noted the forum would, therefore, concentrate on enhancing regional cooperation, championing sustainable tourism models, and identifying new investment avenues.

Discussions during the forum will delve into key areas such as tourism diplomacy and partnerships in sustainable travel, Atif Ikram Sheikh informed. Special focus will be given to medical and wellness tourism, green growth initiatives, education and skills development, sustainable destination management, and the sector”s transformation through digital technology and artificial intelligence.

Specialised knowledge-sharing sessions will also confront critical challenges and opportunities within the sector, he elaborated. These include heritage management for cultural sites and museums, the effects of climate change and natural disasters on tourism, and innovative strategies for creating resilient destinations. Sheikh added that renowned speakers and industry experts from various countries will share international best practices and regional viewpoints to enrich the dialogue and produce actionable results.

Concurrent with the forum, a Tourism Expo will offer a platform for participating countries and organisations to display their tourism destinations, heritage assets, and hospitality services, Sheikh highlighted. The exhibition will also feature cultural products, traditional crafts, and new tourism ventures, with the expectation of facilitating business networking and cross-border collaboration, thereby strengthening tourism”s role in regional economic integration.

According to the FPCCI President, the joint initiative is designed to promote Pakistan and the wider region as a competitive, sustainable, and future-ready destination for international tourism.
