The Punjab government has launched a major project to establish a modern shrimp farming industry, aiming to convert 5,300 acres of barren and waterlogged land in Sargodha and Muzaffargarh into productive aquaculture estates.
The project is hailed as a step towards the “blue economy,” and will involve collaboration with international experts from the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, and Australia to ensure the implementation of modern techniques.
The project also includes the construction of modern infrastructure, including specialized hatcheries, cold storage facilities, and processing plants.
Officials expect the program to strengthen the province’s export capabilities and also create ample employment opportunities for local youth.
This aquaculture project is part of the broader provincial strategy of using modern technology to achieve sustainable economic development and greater self-sufficiency.
