FBR Details Sweeping Digital Reforms to Widen National Tax Net

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) outlined a series of wide-ranging technological reforms, including Video Analytics for production monitoring and mandatory Point of Sale (POS) integration, during an awareness seminar aimed at broadening the nation’s tax base and enhancing compliance among the business community.

The forum, organised by the FBR’s Taxpayer’s Services (TPS) Wing, was held at the Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) in line with the Prime Minister of Pakistan’s vision to expand the number of taxpayers. The FBR delegation was led by officials from its taxpayer education and facilitation departments.

A large gathering of traders, industrialists, and GCCI members, including Senior Vice President Mr. Saad Jamil and Vice President Mr. Faisal Sattar Mughal, attended the session.

FBR officials delivered a detailed presentation on key initiatives under the FBR Transformation Plan. The measures detailed included the Track and Trace System, Digital Invoicing, a Faceless Customs System, and a Reward and Rating System, all designed to strengthen transparency within Pakistan”s revenue administration.

It was revealed that the Video Analytics system for monitoring production has already been deployed in the sugar and cement industries and is currently being implemented in the textile sector. Further initiatives such as the Cargo Tracking System and Direct Port Delivery System were also highlighted.

The presentation asserted that the integrated application of these reforms has already contributed to improved tax compliance, an increased tax-to-GDP ratio, and greater accountability within the revenue collection framework.

Following the briefing, an interactive question and answer session was held, during which members of the local business community raised various queries concerning tax facilitation and compliance. The FBR team addressed the questions and provided guidance.

The event concluded with an exchange of souvenirs between the FBR and the GCCI office bearers, with revenue officials stating their commitment to sustained engagement with commercial stakeholders to build a more efficient and facilitative tax system.
