A series of extensive police operations across the federal capital this week resulted in the apprehension of 56 individuals, including five proclaimed offenders, and the seizure of an automatic rifle, numerous other illegal weapons, and over a kilogramme of heroin.
According to a police report today, the city-wide crackdown was initiated following special directives from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, targeting criminal elements and individuals residing in the city illegally.
Throughout the week, Islamabad Police, with active participation from women police officers, executed 32 distinct search and combing operations in various areas.
The large-scale initiatives involved the inspection of 3,529 individuals, 1,449 households, and 517 shops. Authorities also examined 1,046 motorcycles and 344 other vehicles as part of the security sweep.
For verification purposes, law enforcement personnel shifted 57 illegally residing foreign nationals and 317 suspicious individuals to different police stations. Additionally, nine vehicles and 77 motorcycles were impounded for further checks.
During the raids, authorities successfully arrested five proclaimed offenders wanted in criminal cases. A further 51 accused persons were taken into custody for alleged involvement in drug peddling, possession of illegal arms, and other crimes.
Confiscated items from the arrested suspects include 1,185 grams of heroin and one gram of ice. The recovered weapons cache consisted of one Kalashnikov, two rifles, seven pistols, one dagger, and a large quantity of ammunition.
In separate actions, legal proceedings were initiated against 39 individuals for violations of the tenancy act.
The IGP has instructed police to continue conducting grand search operations throughout the district to eradicate crime and enhance the protection of citizens. Officials stated the purpose of these initiatives is to curb criminal activity and ensure the safety of residents” lives and property.
Authorities have requested that citizens cooperate with police during security checks and report any suspicious activity immediately to the emergency helpline ‘Pucar-15’.
