Customs seizes another catche of betel nuts

QUETTA: Collectorate of Customs Balochistan claimed to have seized large quantity of betel nuts worth Rs 20 million in a raid conducted at a warehouse in Sakran area of district Hub in Balochistan province on Thursday.

According to a statement issued by the spokesman for Collectorate of Customs Balochistan, staff of customs enforcement, Khuzdar raided a warehouse near Sekran area of Hub. Large quantity of Betel nuts stored in the warehouse were recovered during the raid. Value of the seized betel nuts was reported to be Rs.20 million.

The seized goods were shifted to customs check post Kharkhara, Khuzdar. Further investigation was underway.

Five policemen kidnapped in Shikarpur’s riverine area

SHIKARPUR: Five policemen have been kidnapped along with weapons by dacoits in the riverine area of Shikarpur district of Sindh, according to a report on Wednesday.

According to the report, dacoits attacked a police check post at Kot Shahoo locality of a katcha area and took five policemen hostage. SHO Kot Shahu, Mehboob Brohi, and Head Muhrar were among the five policemen kidnapped by the dacoits. The dacoits fled toward katcha along with the abductees.

Meanwhile, heavy contingents of police have been summoned for the operation to recover the abducted cops. It is to be noted that the Caretaker government of Sindh is carrying out an operation against the dacoits in katcha area to restore law and order situation.

Earlier to this, five cops were also reportedly abducted along with the weapons by the dacoits in katcha area of Kandhkot. The dacoits released four of the officials, however, one official namely Mumtaz Tanori - a resident of Shikarpur - was still being captivated.

Young man gunned down in Dalbandin area

QUETTA: One young man was gunned down by unidentified gunmen in Dalbandin area of district Chagai in Balochistan province on Wednesday.

According to levies, unidentified armed men shot dead one young man namely Muhammad Alam Muhammadzai in Dalbandin area of district Chagai.

The body was shifted to Dalbandin hospital and later handed over to the heirs after fulfilling necessary medico-legal formalities. On information, levies, police and other law enforcement agencies reached the site of incident and started search for apprehending perpetrators of the crime.

Further investigation was underway.

Five killed as under-construction building collapses in Karachi

KARACHI: At least five people, including labourers and a passer-by, were killed and four others wounded when an under-construction building collapsed in Karachi’s Shah Faisal Colony on Wednesday, rescue officials said.

A private media outlet citing Saqib Khan, the station house officer (SHO) of the Shah Faisal Colony Police Station, reported that labourers were in the process of laying a prefab cemented roof of the second floor when the old roof of a 40-yard plot caved in, killing four labourers and a passer-by.

Rescue officials rushed to the spot and pulled out the bodies from the debris using heavy machinery. The four injured labourers were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. A case has been registered against the owner of the under-construction building.

Man, son killed Islamabad road accident

ISLAMABAD: A man and his son were crushed to death in a hit-and-run incident on Islamabad’s Faizabad bridge on Tuesday.

According to details, a man and his son were perished when an over speeding dumper truck drove over a motorcycle on IJP Road in Islamabad.

The deceased were identified as Shahid, and his 10-year-old son, Saqib. The accident also caused serious injuries to his daughter.

The dumper driver managed to escape from the scene along with his vehicle. The police have started a probe into the incident.

Woman, two sons shot dead in Gujranwala

Gujranwala: Three persons, including a woman and her two sons, were shot dead by armed men who barged into a house and opened fire in Tatlay Aali, a village in the suburbs of Gujranwala, police said Monday.

The father sustained injuries in the incident. On information, a large contingent of police reached the crime scene and started collecting evidence. The police also took the bodies into custody and shifted the injured to a hospital for treatment.

Old enmity seems to be the reason behind the incident, police said. Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar took notice of the incident and sought a report from the Gujranwala regional police officer (RPO). He also ordered the Gujranwala city police officer (CPO) to form a special team and ensure swift action against the accused.

Trader shot dead in Mansehra

MANSEHRA: A trader was shot dead in Phakwal village of Mansehra on Monday. According to details, 38-year-old Naseer, son of Muhammad Nazeer, was shot dead by an unknown assailant. The suspect managed to flee from the scene after firing.

The dead body was later shifted to King Abdullah Hospital Mansehra for autopsy. Later, the father of the deceased registered an FIR against Muhammad Irfan, son of Muhammad Akram, a resident of Major Ayub Road in Phakwal. The City Police Station Mansehra has launched an FIR and started further investigation.
