Balochistan caretaker CM says transparent polls is govt’s priority

SIBI:Mir Ali Mardan Domki, caretaker Chief Minister Balochistan, said Sunday that transparent election in a peaceful environment was the mandate and priority of the interim government. These views were expressed by him while chairing a meeting held during his visit to Sibi. He said that an effective strategy would have to be adopted by law enforcement agencies to cope up with security challenges and maintain law and order situation.

Highlighting the smart policing instead of traditional policing, he said that the usage of latest technology in policing was inevitable, adding that police ought to have improved its performance in order to obtain confidence of the people. It was required to highlight the sense of security amongst the citizens by adopting the concept of “Safe City” in big cities of the province, said Domki. Jaranwala incident: CM Naqvi announces Rs2mn each for affected family

LAHORE:Punjab caretaker chief minister Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday announced Rs2 million each for the affected families in Jaranwala incident. He reached Isa Nagar area of Jaranwala to express solidarity with the Christian community where he inspected the affected churches and houses.

Naqvi was flanked by caretaker provincial ministers who visited the AEC Church and participated in the prayer ceremony. “This country belongs to every Pakistani and Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Hindus are all one and we are with every oppressed,” he said on the occasion.

Meanwhile, the construction and renovation of the ground floor of the church has been completed and it has been opened for worship after the renovation adding that the work of repairing and restoring the places of worship of the Christian community was going on.

He directed to complete the remaining work of the church soon. Provincial ministers, Senator Kamran Michael, Khalil Zahir Sindhu, Bishop Azad Marshall, Church Pastor and other officials were also present on the occasion.

Guard of honor presented to Caretaker Sindh CM

KARACHI:Guard of honor was presented to the Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh Justice retired Maqbool Baqar on his arrival at Chief Minister House in Karachi on Friday. A smartly turned out contingent of police presented him with a salute. The Chief Secretary Sindh on the occasion introduced the staff officers to the caretaker Chief Minister.

Justice (Retd) Baqar on Thursday took oath as the eight caretaker chief minister Sindh in a ceremony held at Governor House. Sindh Governor Muhammad Kamran Khan Tessori ad­ministered the oath to Justice (Retd) Maqbool Baqar in a ceremony that began with the recita­tion of the Holy Quran and was also attended by the former chief minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

Open manholes pose threat to citizens’ lives

KARACHI:Chairman Union Committee No.08 City Railway Colony Saddar Town Muhammad Salman Khan approached the Karachi water and severe board and asked it to resolve sewerage issues of the locality.

In a statement on Thursday, he said that on August 14, a young child fell into an open manhole in Memon Ggoth and lost his life, so urgent measures should be taken to avoid such accidents in the future.

In a letter written to CEO or managing director KWNSB, the UC chairman maintained that seveal manholes of Pakistan Chowk, Haqqani Chowk, Railway City Colony (Gate No 10, Shaheen Store, main Phatak) NTR Colony, NEW Chall, Gari Khata, Arambagh ( Furniture Market), and Urdu Bazar Ratan Talao are open.

He maintained that due to open manholes, inconvenience was being faced by the residents. Salman maintained that prominent institutions, including schools and hospitals, are also situated in the area and the manholes are a serious threat to the safety of pedestrians as well as motorists. The UC Chairman asked the sewerage board to resolve the issue at the earliest for convenience of the people.

Sharif Tahir Role Model for Youth, Applauds Chairman HEC

Tahir is a role model for Pakistani youth as he has excelled in sports and is successfully pursuing his academic career. He also said that Mr. Tahir’s achievement is a testament to his dedication and commitment to sports.

‘’He will continue to work hard in sports as well as in academia to make us proud,’’ hoped Chairman HEC. He further said that, “we are trying our best to provide a conducive environment for our youth in the universities to excel in sports as well as in academics. So that youngsters like Mr. Tahir can flourish their inherent potential and abilities.”

The President of Pakistan awarded Pakistan’s highest civil award to Mr. Tahir for his remarkable contribution to sports. Mr. Tahir was identified as an aspiring wrestler during wrestling trials being conducted under Talent Hunt Youth Sports League, which is the first of its kind initiative of HEC for the revival of sports culture in the country. The initiative has been directly supervised by Prime Minister’s Office (Youth Affairs). He also won gold medals in Punjab Provincial and National Leagues respectively and represented Pakistan in Commonwealth Games, winning a silver medal for the country in 74 KG weight category.

Tahir also won Gold for HEC in the National Judo Championship held in Peshawar and won bronze medals in Wrestling and Judo for HEC in the 34th National Games, Quetta respectively.

Retired Justice Maqbool Baqar sworn in as caretaker CM

KARACHI:Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori administered the oath of office to Justice Retired Maqbool Baqar as caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh in simple ceremony at Governor House, here on Thursday.

Judges of the Superior Courts, Consul Generals of Different countries, former federal and provincial ministers, businessmen, political and social figures, senior officers and dignitaries of the city attended the ceremony. The

Governor Sindh congratulated justice retired Maqbool Baqar on assuming the post of Caretaker Chief Minister. Chief Secretary Sindh Dr. Sohail Rajput was master of the ceremony. Former Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah was also present on the occasion.

Students’ 68 projects put on display at SSUET Open House

KARACHI:Departments of Electronic Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Computer Engineering of Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) organized an Open House/Orientation session at the campus. The students who were invited with their parents to attend the session were provided with the vision and academic guidance at the Orientation session prior to the start of regular classes.

A total of 68 projects were put on display at the Open House, which were designed and produced by the students among which 23 projects were sponsored by Ignite. Electrical Department presented 18 projects among which 4 projects were sponsored by Ignite, and Electronic Engineering Department put forth 17 projects among which 6 projects were funded by Ignite, while Biomedical Engineering Department presented 12 projects among which 5 projects were sponsored by Ignite.

Furthermore, out of 34 projects, only 13 projects of Computer Engineering were displayed among which 4 projects were sponsored by Ignite. Similarly, 8 projects of the Telecommunication Engineering Department were exhibited along with 4 Ignite-funded projects.

Expressing his views on such an auspicious occasion, Vice Chancellor SSUET, Prof. Dr. Vali Uddin said that Sir Syed University is ranked among the best universities of Pakistan for developing new ideas, new concepts, new theories, and new dreams.
