Cold and dry weather is expected to dominate across most parts of the country during the next 24 hours, while hilly areas are forecasted to experience very cold conditions during nighttime, the Pakistan Meteorological Department said Tuesday.
According to a PMD report, dense patches of smog and fog are likely to persist in the plains of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh during the night hours on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country, while very cold in hilly areas during night hours. Dense smog is likely to persist in plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh during night hours.
In the past 24 hours, cold and dry weather prevailed in most areas, with very cold temperatures in hilly regions. Light rain and drizzle were recorded in northeast Punjab, including Kasur, which received 5 millimeters of rain, Lahore Airport with 2 millimeters, and Mangla with 1 millimeter.
Meanwhile, light snowfall blanketed Murree, Galliyat, and parts of Kashmir, with Murree recording 2 inches. Smog and fog continued to affect visibility in parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh.
The lowest recorded temperatures included Leh and Skardu at minus 9 degrees Celsius, followed by Gupis, Astore, and Gilgit at minus 7 degrees. Quetta recorded minus 6 degrees, while Kalam and Dir experienced minus 4 degrees.
Residents have been advised to exercise caution while traveling in fog-affected areas and take measures to protect against cold weather and frost.
