Islamabad:The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed that a copy of the judicial inquiry report on the Army Public School (APS) Peshawar carnage be provided to the Attorney General for Pakistan.
A two-member bench comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Ijazul Ahsan, while hearing a suo moto case on the APS carnage, occurred in 2014, also directed the Attorney General Khalid Jawed Khan to seek government’s instructions over the judicial inquiry report regarding the next step and apprise the court.
Justice Muhammad Ibrahim, the head of the judicial inquiry commission, had submitted the inquiry report to the Chief Justice of Pakistan on July 9, 2020 after conducting the extensive proceedings spread over about 20 months. However, the report was presented before the court today (Tuesday).
During the hearing, the Chief Justice expressed sympathies with the aggrieved parents of the APS carnage and remarked that the responsible for the APS tragedy will not be tolerated. Later, the court adjourned the hearing for four weeks.
