In a decisive move to improve urban infrastructure, Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi has prioritized the immediate repair of University Road, which has been severely affected by recent rains. During a high-level meeting on Tuesday, Commissioner Naqvi emphasized the need for immediate action to alleviate the difficulties faced by residents and ensure smooth traffic flow.

The meeting was held at the Commissioner’s office, where the progress of the BRT Red Line project from Model Colony to Malir Cantt Safoora Chowrangi, and from University Road to Numaish Chowrangi was highlighted. Despite the rapid progress, the rain-affected University Road emerged as a significant issue. Representatives from various civic bodies, including Secretary Transport Asad Zaman and CEO TransKarachi Fawad Ghaffar, attended the meeting.

A comprehensive review of the affected road was conducted, and a decision was made to commence repair work immediately. The CEO of TransKarachi assured the participants that all potholes would be filled within a week, reducing the challenges faced by commuters.

Commissioner Naqvi stressed that due to the current condition of the road, the public is facing unnecessary hardships and traffic obstructions. Therefore, he emphasized the importance of prioritizing the restoration of University Road to improve the city’s infrastructure and aid in the completion of the ongoing BRT Red Line project, which is targeted for completion by June 2026.

Furthermore, the meeting addressed issues related to the use of the sewer line of Masjid Bait-ul-Mukarram and ensured the establishment of alternative routes to remove all potential obstacles in the progress towards a better public transport system for the city.
