Srinagar, April 04, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has strongly condemned the government ban on advertisements to the reputed dailies, Greater Kashmir, Kashmir Uzma and Kashmir Reader terming the move an attack on the media institutions.
A DFP spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that New Delhi first tried to intimidate people by arresting their leaders, banning political parties and attaching legal properties and now it was trying to threaten the media.
He said threatening the Kashmir media, which has been performing professionally, by using economic tools is nothing but to harm the basic concept of democracy. “The decision can directly impact the lives of hundreds of media persons whose bread and butter is associated with the institutions they are working for,” he added.
The spokesman condemned the Indian judiciary for not granting bail to illegally detained DFP Chairman, Shabbir Ahmed Shah. He said Shabbir Shah is being punished for his political ideology and the irony is that even Indian judiciary is working on behest of the political leadership.
He said nothing has been proved against Shabbir Shah but India at institutional level is adamant not to listen to the facts and punish its political opponents by using its investigation agencies including judiciary.
