ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi Thursday said it is the basic and constitutional responsibility of Election Commission to held fair and free elections.

Addressing a news conference in Islamabad, Qureshi said the world is keeping an eye on the Election Commission. Qureshi claimed the international agency, Moody’s plan the economic outlook, adding the news from Moody’s related to Pakistan is not good, as Pakistan’s economic outlook which was strong has now goes negative. The former foreign minister said today was the hearing of the key case at Election Commission.

Qureshi said: “We had and still have five reserve seats that should be notified”, adding that Hamza Shehbaz’s position in the Punjab Assembly is very weak. If the Election Commission does not work transparently, anarchy will spread, said Shah Mahmood.

Shah said the Chief Justice asked the Chief Election Commissioner that at which time elections could be held, adding that in reply the Chief Election Commissioner said they required seven months. Qureshi said: “Now the Chief Election Commissioner is saying that they are ready for the election”. Qureshi said all constituencies in KP have been reorganized, adding the nature of the constituencies has changed.
