FCA System Boosts Trade Efficiency, Discourages Rollback Rumors: Bilwani

President of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Muhammad Jawed Bilwani, on Sunday emphasized that the Faceless Customs Assessment (FCA) system has streamlined trade processes for compliant businesses, countering speculation about its potential rollback.

He clarified that only those involved in malpractice face challenges, while the system has benefited genuine importers and exporters by making customs operations faster and more transparent.

Bilwani praised the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Pakistan Customs for implementing the FCA system in Karachi, describing it as a model reform that enhances transparency and curbs corruption. By utilizing Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence, the FCA system reduces physical interaction in customs assessment, leading to reduced demurrage and detention losses. This has significantly boosted confidence among legitimate traders.

The FCA”s introduction has expedited customs clearance, simplified documentation, and reduced reliance on clearing agents. With self-clearance becoming more prevalent, businesses experience lower operational costs and manage shipments independently through a digital interface.

A notable achievement of the FCA system is minimizing physical visits to Customs House, saving time and reducing malpractice opportunities. Bilwani highlighted the success of the Karachi rollout and called for its nationwide expansion, urging similar technological implementations in other trade-related departments to address corruption and inefficiency.

He praised the dedication of Karachi”s Customs officials and reaffirmed KCCI”s support for initiatives that simplify trade and foster transparency. Bilwani concluded by advocating for full digitization of the trade process to enhance accountability and speed, declaring the FCA system a step toward modernizing Pakistan’s trade infrastructure.
