Govt Pledges Modernization Boost For National Tariff Commission

Rana Ihsaan Afzal Khan, the Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Commerce, visited the National Tariff Commission (NTC) headquarters in Islamabad today to assess its mandate, operations, and institutional strength.

Khan received briefings from the NTC Chairman and senior management on the organization’s central duties, which include providing counsel to the government on tariff-related issues and enforcing trade remedy regulations like anti-dumping and countervailing duties, and safeguard measures. The NTC”s role in shielding domestic businesses from unfair global trade practices was highlighted as a crucial element of Pakistan”s trade strategy.

The meeting also facilitated an open discussion where NTC representatives shared institutional obstacles and explored strategies for performance improvement. Khan commended the NTC”s efforts and reiterated the administration”s dedication to bolstering the Commission. He pledged full backing to provide the NTC with advanced resources, stressing the importance of digital modernization to enhance efficiency and accelerate operations.

‘The NTC must transform into a data-driven, technologically advanced body to effectively protect Pakistan’s financial interests in the current volatile global trade landscape,’ Khan remarked.

This visit highlights the government”s determination to cultivate a more competitive trade atmosphere for Pakistani exporters and offer robust safeguards to local enterprises against detrimental trade actions.
