Srinagar, July 23, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Indian police beat up a photojournalist while he was carrying his professional duty in Srinagar, today. Rising Kashmir’s photojournalist Farooq Shah was beaten up by the police near Barzullah Bridge in Srinagar. He sustained injuries in one of fingers and his camera was also damaged by the police.
Farooq Shah was on his duty to cover a protest staged by locals to demand the dead body of a youth killed by the Indian troops in Kupwara district, last month. He said that the police had also thrashed many protesting women.
Meanwhile, a news gathering agency of Kashmir Valley on Monday staged protest against the Indian authorities for filing a case against the staff over publishing a letter of Kashmiri PhD scholar. The protest led by Editor-in-Chief of Current News Service, Rasheed Rahi marched towards commercial hub, Lal Chowk, from Srinagar’s press enclave to protest against the registration of an FIR. The scribes were carrying banners and placards reading slogans. Rahi while talking to media persons termed it an attack on freedom of press.
