Srinagar, March 27, 2019 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) has paid glowing tributes to noted Kashmiri lawyer, Advocate Jaleel Ahmed Andrabi, on his martyrdom anniversary. Advocate Jalil Andrabi was abducted by Major Avtar Singh of the 35th Rashtriya Rifles unit of the Indian Army in Srinagar on March 08, 1996. Three weeks later, his body was found floating in the Jhelum River. An autopsy showed that he was killed days after his arrest.
The JKLF held a condolence meeting in Srinagar, today, to mark the martyrdom anniversary of Jaleel Andrabi. During the meeting sacrifices of prominent Kashmiri martyrs including Ishfaq Majeed Wani, Shabbir Ahmed Sideequi and Doctor Abdul Ahad Guru were also recalled.
Addressing the meeting, the JKLF Acting Chairman, Abdul Hameed Butt, said that Jaleel Andrabi was among the pioneers of the ongoing freedom struggle. “He was romantically affiliated with the freedom struggle and kept striving for the righteous cause till his last breath. Besides being a successful jurist and a great intellectual, he was a courageous person who always cared and worked for the betterment of society,” he said.
Abdul Hameed Butt said that the Kashmiris would never forget Jaleel Andrabi’s courage, passion and sacrifices in the ongoing Kashmir freedom movement. He said that even after receiving threats from Indian terrorists in uniform, Jaleel Andrabi courageously continued his struggle and sacrificed his life for the Kashmir cause. He said that the Kashmiris were duty-bound to continue the liberation movement that had been nourished by the sacred blood of martyrs.
Meanwhile, JKLF in a statement issued in Srinagar said that prayer meetings were held across occupied Kashmir in connection with the martyrdom anniversary of Advocate Jaleel Andrabi. Quran Khwani was also held at various places in which leaders, activists and admirers of martyrs participated and prayed for the elevation of their places in heaven.
It said that in continuation of anti-India protests against banning of JKLF, arrest of large number of party leaders including its Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik, raids and Indian state terrorism in occupied Kashmir, the JKLF and its students wing held a forceful protest demonstration in Bhimber district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Zonal party leaders, Touseef Ali Jarral, Shakeel Jarral and SLF leader Obaid Shabir led the protest march which was attended by a large number of party leaders, activists and students.
