KARACHI: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) handed over six Karachi city graveyards to welfare organizations and constituted an eight-member central committee to improve the conditions of city graveyards, PPI learnt on Wednesday.
The central committee comprises Ali Hassan Sajid Director MMD, KMC; Iqbal Pervaiz Director Graveyard, KMC; Sarwar Alam Deputy Director Graveyard; Zafar Abbas JDC Welfare Organization; Manzar Alam of Al-Khidmat Welfare Society; Rehan Yaseen of Alamgir Welfare Trust; Yaha Attari of Dawat e Islami; and Muhammad Khalid Noor of Al-Noor Welfare.
The KCM has handed over the graveyards of Sakhi Hassan, Essa Nagri, Muhmmad Shah, Model Colony, Tariq Road, and Al-Noor Graveyard to the welfare organizations/NGO. The committee will manage the burial affairs of the city graveyards under the administrative control of KMC effectively and improve the condition of sanitation, lighting and security at these graveyards in first phase.
Beside this, it will oversee all the affairs about provision of graves till burial, keep record of all the graves and burial and maintain the same. It will keep check and balance of all the matters related to untertakers and ensure that no immoral, unethical and unsocial activities take place in graveyards.
The committee will also make necessary arrangements for safety of graves and bodies from stray animals, submit its recommendations regarding constitution of sub-committees to KMC for management of all the graveyards, ensure maintenance of graveyards, hold its regular meetings on monthly basis and submit its reports and recommendations to the administrator KMC on monthly basis.
