Mayor Slams Federal Govt’s Neglect of Karachi’s Needs

Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab today issued a stark critique of the federal government, accusing it of failing to address the city’s dire financial requirements.

While inaugurating the Imam Mehdi Park and Sports Ground, Wahab emphasized that Karachi needs a substantial investment of at least 200 billion rupees, far exceeding the 20 billion rupees that the Prime Minister has promised.

The Mayor underscored the urgency of localized efforts, stating that solutions cannot be achieved from Islamabad. This year, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation will allocate 28 billion rupees towards development initiatives, with an additional 10 billion rupees designated for town-level projects. Wahab lamented the federal government”s focus on contractor interests, questioning the credibility of those who have neglected infrastructure for nearly a decade.

Speaking at the opening of the new recreational facility in New Rizvia Society, Wahab highlighted the transformation of a former garbage site into a 5.5-acre modern park. Built at a cost of 150 million rupees, the park boasts walking trails, football and cricket fields, and floodlit amenities. The Mayor remarked on the project”s significance, describing it as a charitable contribution to the community and a testament to the city”s potential for growth.

Wahab also praised the ongoing large-scale development projects under the Pakistan People”s Party”s vision, specifically highlighting the progress of the BRT project on University Road and efforts to address water and sewerage challenges. With a commitment to infrastructure restoration post-rainfall, the Mayor assured citizens that this year will mark a turning point for Karachi”s development.

Additionally, Wahab invited collaboration from political figures, challenging them to prioritize citizen welfare over political gain. He affirmed the city”s dedication to executing the PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari”s vision, stressing a focus on tangible results rather than political rhetoric. According to Wahab, the administration”s performance-driven approach is steadily resolving the city”s longstanding issues.
