Srinagar, October 05, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, senior advocate Mian Abdul Qayoom was re-elected unopposed as President of the High Court Bar Association (HCBA). It is the 20th time that he will serve HCBA as its president. Elected for the first time in 1986 as HCBA president, Advocate Mian Qayoom has been re-elected every time since then except during periods when he was in jail or when he did not contest elections.
Polling for this year’s election was held for four posts. For the position of vice president, Advocate Aijaz Ahmed Bedar defeated his rival Mushtaq Ahmed Dar by a margin of 268 votes. Aijaz Bedar secured 539 votes while Mushtaq Dar got 271 votes. For the post of General Secretary, Advocate Muhammad Ashraf Butt defeated G N Shaheen by a margin of 116 votes. Ashraf Butt bagged 464 votes while G N Shaheen secured 348.
For the post of Joint Secretary, Aadil Asmi defeated his rival candidates Ajaz Ahmed Dar and Bilal Ahmed Butt. Aadil Asmi defeated his closest rival Bilal Butt by 78 votes. Asmi bagged 366 votes, Bilal 288, and Ajaz 162. For the post of Treasurer, Bilal Ahmed Wani scored 348 votes defeating his rivals, Sameer Wani and Surat Shakeel Batkoo. Sameer bagged 254 votes while Batkoo got 218 votes.
