Karachi, In a significant move to bolster sustainable development in Pakistan, Naeem Qureshi, known for his environmental advocacy, has been named the new Convener of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry's (FPCCI) Central Standing Committee on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2024-25. This appointment underscores the FPCCI's commitment to integrating sustainability into the core of Pakistani businesses and industries.
According to Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Qureshi's appointment by FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh reflects recognition of his extensive efforts in environmental conservation and sustainability. His prior work, which includes promoting urban green spaces, advocating for renewable energy, and advancing sustainable urban planning, aligns with the committee's objectives to advance the SDGs within Pakistan's business sector.
The committee, under Qureshi's leadership, is set to include at least nine members chosen for their expertise in various sustainability domains. It plans to convene quarterly to strategize on incorporating the SDGs effectively into business and industrial practices across the nation. Qureshi emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts, involving civil society, non-governmental organizations, and the business community, to drive sustainable progress and align Pakistan's industrial and economic activities with global sustainability benchmarks.
