Pakistan launched its first-ever International Husn-e-Qirat Competition in Islamabad on Monday, an event featuring participants from 40 countries, which officials believe will help project a positive image of the nation on the world stage.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, described the hosting of the global contest as a great honour for the country.

The Minister urged Muslims to strictly adhere to the teachings of the Holy Quran, stating it is not only a source of guidance but also a complete code of life that every Muslim must follow.

He added that the gathering will also serve to strengthen the spiritual bond among Muslim countries.

Sardar Muhammad Yousaf revealed that the incumbent government is taking steps to promote a deeper understanding of the sacred text, with various initiatives under consideration to introduce Arabic language teaching at multiple levels in educational institutions.

Dr Atta ur Rehman, Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, welcomed the participating Qaris (reciters) and judges to the event.

He confirmed that on the opening day, performers from 12 nations were scheduled to recite from the Holy Quran.

The competition will continue until the 27th of this month, with a prize distribution ceremony scheduled for the 29th.
