QUETTA:Moulana Abdul Qadir Luni, Provincial Ameer, Jamait Ulema-e-Islam (N) has said that postponement of local body election was not acceptable to the people at any cost.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, he said that local government system, an integral part of democracy, addresses the problem of the people at local level. Luni said that if observations about the census of 2017 exist, arrangements should be made for conducting fresh census rather than pending the election of local bodies.
He added functional local government system can put the country on the path of progress. He said that providing good governance to the people is the responsibility of government, hence, more powers be devolved to local government so that the problems of the people could be solved at their threshold.
Luni said that it is the responsibility of Election Commission of Pakistan to conduct election of local bodies within 120 days after the expiry of the period of local bodies. He added that reforms were required to be introduced in local government system so that the fruits of local government system can reach to the people.
