ISLAMABAD:Though the recent downpour in many plain areas of the country has brought temperatures down, but the electricity shortfall still persists which is causing long durations of power outages.
According to a report, the total electricity shortfall is 6,245MW while the total generation of electricity in the country is 20,755MW and the demand is 27,000MW which is triggering power cuts as long as 14 hours a day.
The report says 4,574MW electricity is being produced from hydropower; 1,731MW from government thermal plants; 11,595MW from private power houses; 1,345MW from wind power plants; 154MW from bagasse-run plants; and 1,239MW electricity is being generated from atomic energy.
According to the report, 6,245MW power shortfall has compelled government to resort to load management and there is 14 hours long load shedding being observed across the country. In Islamabad region, the loadshedding duration is 6 hours.
