Pakistan TehreekeInsaf (PTI) Sindh held a protest demonstration and took out a rally outside the City Court in Karachi today, demanding the swift release of PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi.
The demonstration saw a substantial turnout with a host of PTI leaders and a large number of supporters, including lawyers and workers vocally demanding justice.
Led by PTI Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh and other notable leaders and activists, including party’s General Secretary Dr Masroor Siyal and PTI Karachi President Raja Azhar, the protest drew attention to what participants described as a miscarriage of justice and a direct attack on the supremacy of the constitution and the rule of law in Pakistan.
Haleem expressed his concerns, stating that the current government’s actions have led the country to a critical juncture. “Our leaders are imprisoned on trumpedup charges while the judiciary appears incapacitated,” he declared to the assembled crowd.
The protesters, holding banners and shouting slogans, underscored their frustration with what they see as judicial inaction and governmental overreach.
Dr Masroor highlighted the protest’s broader aim towards judicial independence, urging the judiciary to operate without fear and bias. “The nation stands with those judges who rule justly,” Siyal said, emphasizing the dire consequences of a justice system feared by its own people.
Raja Azhar reiterated the movement’s dedication to fighting for constitutional supremacy and the rule of law, criticizing the government for its alleged corrupt practices and calling for the judiciary to wake up to the nation’s outcry. “Imran Khan represents a movement of awareness and change, a revolution that has now reached a decisive phase,” Azhar stated, condemning police attempts to misrepresent peaceful protesters as troublemakers.
PTI Karachi Senior Vice President Faheem Khan accused the government of operating underhandedly, particularly criticizing the handling of Imran Khan’s legal proceedings. “The case against our leader was delisted under the cover of night, a clear act of desperation,” he claimed.
The leaders vowed to continue their protests until their demands for Imran Khan’s and his fellow party members’ release were met, framing their struggle as a fight for the future of Pakistan’s democracy and legal integrity.
