A monumental urban development initiative poised to create more than 300,000 jobs by 2036 was announced for the Holy City of Makkah.
According to information today, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, unveiled the “King Salman Gate,” a project set to transform the central area surrounding AlMasjid AlHaram.
The vast undertaking, managed by RUA AlHaram AlMakki Company, a Public Investment Fund (PIF) entity, will span up to 12 million square meters of gross floor area directly adjacent to the Grand Mosque. This scheme represents a major milestone in the city”s development, with the goal of establishing Makkah as a global benchmark in modern city planning.
A primary objective of the King Salman Gate is to contribute to enhancing access to AlMasjid AlHaram, elevating the quality of services, and enriching the journey for every visitor, in alignment with the goals of the Pilgrim Experience Program.
The integrated mixed-use destination will feature residential, hospitality, commercial, and cultural experiences. A significant feature of the development is the addition of around 900,000 indoor and outdoor praying spaces, substantially increasing the capacity for worshippers.
With a seamless connection to public transportation networks, the new district will ensure easy access and comfort. The design will pay homage to Makkah”s distinct identity, blending its rich architectural heritage with world-class modern living to create a unique environment for residents and guests.
Cultural preservation is a key component of the plan, which includes the restoration and development of approximately 19,000 square meters of heritage sites. This effort is intended to safeguard Makkah’s cultural and historical legacy.
RUA AlHaram AlMakki Company is tasked with developing the project as part of its mission to advance urban infrastructure around the Grand Mosque. The company affirmed its commitment to sustainable resource management and adhering to global best practices in real estate development to deliver an exceptional experience while preserving the city”s cultural fabric.
