KARACHI: Captain Mohammad Rizwan and Sohaib Maqsood helped Multan Sultans beat Lahore Qalandars by seven wickets to win its first match in PSL 6 here at National Stadium on Friday.
Rizwan and Maqsood put up a match-winning partnership of 110 runs after they joined hands when Multan Sultans were suffering at 2-30 while chasing 158 runs in 20 overs.
While batting first, Hafeez powered Qalandars initially but Sultans’ bowlers contained well and restricted them to 157-6.
Hafeez scored his eighth PSL fifty as Qalandars accelerated their score in 10 overs. He made 60 runs off 35 balls with the help of three boundaries and five sixes.
Joe Denly (31) supported Hafeez well as they scored 89 runs together. Samit Patel powered 26 runs off 20 with the help of two boundaries and a six.
For Sultans, Shahnawaz Dhani and Carlos Brathwaite bagged two wickets each while Usman Qadir took a wicket.
In reply, Sultans lost Chris Lynn and James Vince departed earlier to leave Sultans tattering at 30-2. Rizwan and Maqsood took charge then and partnered strongly to take the game into their hand.
Rizwan smashed 76 runs off 49 balls laced with 12 boundaries whereas Maqsood remained not out for 61 runs spread over seven boundaries and two sixes.
Shaheen Shah Afridi bagged two wickets while Samit Patel took a wicket each.
