Karachi, August 08, 2019 (PPI-OT): Sindh Food Authority Board has approved a summary of funding amount to Rs. 200 million rupees grant in aid to finance department as it was facing acute shortage of funds which affecting the operations of authority, while it also approved 43 million rupees to meet out remaining expenditures of authority through its own income which was generated through collection of licence fee and fine imposed on violators of the codes of authority.
These decision were taken at the 4th meeting of Sindh Food Authority Board presided over by Sindh minister for food and chairman SFA Hari Ram Kishori Lal. The meeting was also attended by MPAs Dr. Sohrab Sarki , Ghanwar Khan Isran, secretary food Laeeq Ahmed, DG SFA Amjad Laghari, director operations (SFA) Taufiq Ahmed, president all Sindh restaurant association and other members.
The board also discussed the various options for filling the acute shortage of staff and manpower. The board was informed that till 28th June an amount of Rs. 22964993 has been collected in SFA funds which included licence fees amounting to Rs. 9,450,600 and fines imposed on violators of SFA laws amounting to Rs.13514393.
Addressing the meeting, minister food Hari Ram Kishori Lal said that despite the shortage of resources and manpower, the authority has proved its existence. He said that recently SFA has conducted major operations at super highway and seized 1 lakh liter unhygienic milk being supplied to Karachi city and destroyed it on the spot.
He said that due to federal government’s ill planned economic policies, millions of people are at risk for losing their jobs while scores of business had been closed. He said that they (Sindh government ) were not in favor of forcing business to shut down and make people jobless , however they will not put people’s lives at risk due to supply of unhealthy food items to the citizen.
He directed DG SFA to gear up its operations against the unhealthy food establishments across the province after taking into confidence the chamber of commerce and industries and relevant associations and stakeholders.
