Balochistan’s Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has assured that the controversial mining and minerals bill will be legislated with broad consensus, as he stated while addressing the provincial assembly session on Monday. Emphasizing the importance of unity on important provincial matters, Bugti said that the coalition government is committed to including all political parties, including the opposition, in the legislative process.

The Chief Minister stressed that since the formation of the coalition government, the government has prioritized achieving a broad consensus on Balochistan’s issues. He mentioned that it was Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s directive to work with all political parties to adopt a unified strategy. Bugti stated that the bill has been referred to a committee comprising members from the opposition and the government for detailed scrutiny, which included a clause-by-clause analysis at the Chief Minister’s House with the participation of relevant associations and experts.

Acknowledging human errors in interpretation, Bugti accused certain elements of trying to politicize the matter. He affirmed the assembly’s role as the supreme decision-making body. Bugti invited the opposition leaders and parties absent from the assembly to present their perspectives on the bill to reach a collective consensus. He reiterated the government’s willingness to amend any controversial clauses and to engage in constructive dialogue as part of the democratic process.
