LARKANA: Central President of All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Union Abdul Latif Nizamani, Provincial Secretary Iqbal Ahmed, Regional Chairman Nisar Ahmed Sheikh, Zonal Chairman Abdullah Soomro and other leaders in a press conference they addressed at Larkana Press Club on Thursday has demanded a separate 500 KV power house for Larkana on the pattern of Dadu and Sukkur to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the residents of nearby districts as well who are undergoing massive power outages since long.

They said that due to rising inflation in the country, 50% SEPCO employees are working instead of 100% due to no fresh recruitment and that too without proper safety gadgets. They said due to lack of safety equipment many employees have died but nothing even then has yet been done. They said Sepco is facing a 40% shortage of staff due to which other employees are bearing the workload. They said that the national requirement of electricity is 28000 megawatts and the production is 22000 megawatts. The government has closed its power houses to generate electricity and expensive electricity is being purchased from private companies. They said that currently we are importing coal from Australia and trying to buy from Afghanistan.

They said that taxes have been imposed on the consumers in the recent electricity bills due to which the consumers’ anger is on us, despite the fact that we do not have the resources, SEPCO employees are performing their duties day and night to supply electricity to the consumers despite the old and outdated power distribution lines. They said that there are power houses in Sukkur and Dadu, while Larkana should also be given a separate power house of 500 KV so that electricity can be supplied to the consumers in a better way and load shedding can be reduced. They said that the government should focus on the production of electricity in the country because the industry of the country will develop with the production of electricity, which will benefit the people and the organization will be profitable.

After the press conference, Abdul Latif Nizmani along with his other companions reached Sajawal Tanio village where they offered condolences with the relatives of Major Saeed Tanio who was martyred in the helicopter accident.
